The Canyons of the
San Juan River

...Where the Journey is Your Destination

The San Juan River in southeastern Utah provides access to the magnificent wilderness canyons of the Colorado Plateau. The 85 mile stretch of river between Bluff, Utah and Lake Powell has been described as "the best desert river run in the country." The river drops an average of 8 feet per mile making the San Juan the fastest flowing major river in the country. The quick moving current combined with numerous medium sized rapids provides an exciting whitewater experience.

paddle boats on San Juan River From March through October Wild Adventures offers guided raft trips on the San Juan. Our standard and most preferred San Juan adventure is a 6 day / 5 night trip that covers 85 river miles. This trip begins and ends in the small pioneer town of Bluff, Utah. Once on the river you will be treated to spectacular canyons rich in scenery. We will boat and hike through 320 million years of geologic history, explore the 1,000 year old artwork and cliffside homes of the ancient Anasazi Indians, and observe desert bighorn sheep, eagles, and lizards. Clean, comfortable camps and great meals are an important part of every trip. We will camp on beautiful beaches surrounded by towering canyon walls while you relax in the care of experienced guides who provide you with comfortable camps, great meals and a reasonably safe trip.. We offer a varied menu of delicious fresh foods including entrees such as seafood pasta and steaks grilled over mesquite charcoal. There will be plenty of fresh salads, fruits and vegetables on the menu. If you have any special dietary requirements, we will be happy to accommodate you. This is not a physically strenuous trip; the amount of hiking you do is up to you. Anyone in reasonably good health will enjoy the trip. The weather is generally warm and dry with plenty of sunshine. Trips in April, May, and June offer the opportunity to view cactus and other desert flowers in full bloom. Our journey will end where the river empties into Lake Powell and we will return by car to Bluff.

If your itinerary will not allow time for our full length trip, consider joining one of our scheduled trips for 2 days / 1 night between Bluff and Mexican Hat or for 4 days / 3 nights between Mexican Hat and Lake Powell. We also offer custom private trips suited to your particular needs.
